What Is Litecoin?
The loyal fork.
Litecoin is one of the oldest cryptocurrencies, created in 2011 as a faster, lighter version of Bitcoin. Fifteen years on, its crowd still orbits the original. LTC matches Bitcoin's sentiment moves 69% in step, a far tighter bond than its fellow fork Bitcoin Cash manages, and on the CFGI Litecoin fear and greed index it did something in the year to June 2026 that only one other non-major on our list managed: it bottomed with the majors, printing its yearly sentiment low of 20 on 5 February 2026, the same day as Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB, XRP and Solana, with the price at $52 after a 23% fall from 20 January.
The CFGI read: Litecoin bottomed with the majors on 5 February 2026 without a single Extreme Fear close all year, its low of 20 resting exactly on the boundary. In CFGI data, LTC is the last alt still fully inside Bitcoin's emotional orbit, its loyalty measured at a 69% sentiment match.
Litecoin Fear and Greed Index History: June 2025 to June 2026
Yet it never fully panics. LTC closed zero days in Extreme Fear across the whole year, even at that February bottom; its low of 20 sat exactly on the boundary without crossing it. The year's worst single sentiment day, a 36-point fall, came in the cascade of 10 October 2025, when the price dropped 21% across the 8 to 11 October window.
The brighter stretch followed the market's calendar too: a 41% price rally between 1 and 20 July 2025, the score peaking at 87 on 20 July with the price at $117, and the price topping at $130 on 12 August. By 5 March 2026 the price had recovered to $56 from the February low, before the slide resumed to the twelve-month low of $41 on 7 June 2026. The full year closed down 55%, from $92.25 to $41.93. Contrast all of it with Bitcoin Cash market sentiment, where the other fork's crowd has drifted away entirely: Litecoin rallies with the market, breaks with the market, and bottoms with the majors, while never once conceding extreme fear. Loyalty with a stiff upper lip, measured daily for a year.
