What Is Litecoin?

Old silver, steady hands.

Litecoin is one of the oldest working projects in crypto, forked from Bitcoin's code in 2011 as a faster, cheaper payments coin and nicknamed silver to Bitcoin's gold ever since. It has outlived most of the market's louder experiments, and on the CFGI Litecoin fear and greed index, where we have scored it since 28 June 2022, the crowd wears that age plainly: slow to panic, quick to find its level, and quietly warmer than the market around it.

The CFGI read: Litecoin's price fell 58.2% over the past year, from $113.98 to $47.70, and the crowd did not close one single day in Extreme Fear. It enters 26 July 2026 at 61, in Greed, ten points above the whole market's 51 on the same day. A price cut by more than half and a warm crowd is a strange pairing, and it is the most Litecoin result imaginable.

Litecoin Fear and Greed Index History

Q3 2026 breakdown. The table below updates daily.

The peak came early. A twelve day Greed or better run from 3 August 2025 included the year's only Extreme Greed close, 80 out of 100 on 5 August with the price at $120.71, and the price itself topped out at $130.16 on 12 August. The hardest single day followed on 10 October 2025, when the score fell 35 points from 69 to 34, the sharpest drop this crowd has printed.

The deep winter belonged to February. A fifteen day Fear or worse stretch ran from 29 January to 12 February 2026, and inside it sat the year's floor: 20 out of 100 on 5 February with the price at $51.21, the same day the overall market Fear and Greed Index printed its own yearly low of 12 and 98 of the 102 assets scored closed in Fear or worse, ten of them in Extreme Fear. Even then, Litecoin's crowd stopped at Fear.

Recovery is where the age shows. On 7 November 2025 the score jumped 30 points from 38 to 68 in one close, and the full year ledger reads 93 days of Fear, 226 of Neutral, 45 of Greed and 1 of Extreme Greed, calmer on average than 79 of the 104 tokens we rank over a full year, even as the price scraped $40.97 on 24 June 2026.

Litecoin Fear and Greed Index FAQ

What is the Litecoin Fear and Greed Index today?

The Litecoin Fear and Greed Index today is 49/100 on the daily view, showing Neutral. It summarizes live Litecoin market sentiment on a 0 to 100 scale.

How is the Litecoin Fear and Greed Index calculated?

CFGI combines price action, impulse, volatility, volume, technicals, social sentiment, dominance, search interest, whale activity and order book pressure into one Litecoin fear and greed reading.

What is a good Litecoin Fear and Greed Index reading?

There is no single good reading, because the index measures mood rather than value. Extreme Fear below 25 marks the points where sentiment is most washed out, and Extreme Greed above 75 the points carrying the most risk, so what counts as good depends on whether you are buying or selling.

How accurate is the Litecoin Fear and Greed Index?

It reads sentiment accurately and predicts price poorly, and those are two different things. The score reflects what the Litecoin market feels right now across ten live inputs, so treat it as a risk gauge rather than a forecast: it tells you how one-sided the crowd has become, not what happens next.

What does the Litecoin Fear and Greed Index measure?

It measures the emotional state of the Litecoin market on a 0 to 100 scale, from extreme fear at 0 to extreme greed at 100. CFGI builds that number from ten indicators including price action, volatility, volume, momentum, technicals and social sentiment, rather than from price alone.

How do I use the Litecoin Fear and Greed Index?

Most people use it to size risk rather than to time entries. The extreme readings are the useful ones: they flag when the crowd has become one-sided, which is when caution costs least and greed costs most. Read it alongside price and volume, never on its own.

How often is the Litecoin Fear and Greed Index updated?

The Litecoin Fear and Greed Index is updated every 15 minutes, so the live reading can change as Litecoin market conditions shift.

What does a low Litecoin Fear and Greed score mean?

A low score (0 to 39) signals fear or extreme fear, where traders are cautious, risk-averse or pessimistic about the Litecoin market.

What does a high Litecoin Fear and Greed score mean?

A high score (60 to 100) signals greed or extreme greed, where confidence, risk appetite and bullish sentiment dominate the Litecoin market.

Can I get alerts when the Litecoin Fear and Greed Index changes?

Yes. CFGI alerts let you track Litecoin sentiment across daily, 4-hour, 1-hour and 15-minute timeframes. Create alerts for fear, greed, extreme readings or specific Litecoin Fear and Greed Index score changes.
