What Is Algorand?
The crowd that never panics.
Algorand is a proof of stake layer 1 launched in 2019 by the MIT cryptographer and Turing Award winner Silvio Micali, built for instant finality and now aimed squarely at payments and tokenised real-world assets. It is one of the survivors of the 2019 generation of smart contract chains, and on the CFGI Algorand fear and greed index that longevity shows up as something unusual: a crowd that has seen every cycle and refuses to be shocked by any of them.
The CFGI read: Algorand's price fell 70.3% in the year to 26 July 2026, from $0.2834 to $0.0842, and its crowd seldom closed a day in Extreme Fear. The floor was 24 out of 100 on 11 October 2025, printed on the broadest Extreme Fear day in our crypto records, when 93 of the 96 tokens we scored sat in Fear or worse and 17 of them in Extreme Fear. Even at the centre of a market-wide rout, ALGO stopped short of the bottom zone.
Algorand Fear and Greed Index History
Q3 2026 breakdown. The table below updates daily.
The year's ledger reads like a study in restraint: 230 of 365 days in Neutral, 97 in Fear, 38 in Greed, with the extremes hardly featuring. The average reading of 46 makes Algorand the 72nd most fearful of the tokens we rank on the year, calmer than most of our crypto roster despite a price that fell harder than its mood ever admitted. Its longest run below Neutral lasted just nine days, 11 to 19 December 2025.
When the crowd did cheer, it cheered a recovery rather than a high. The peak of 74 out of 100 arrived on 3 April 2026 at $0.1232, five days after the price bottomed at $0.0811 on 29 March, and it anchored an eight-day Greed run from 1 to 8 April. The sharpest single-day break came on 25 August 2025, a 17 point fall from 67 to 50 on the same day the full Fear and Greed Index suffered its own steepest drop of the year, 28 points. The anchor market panicked; the Algorand crowd merely flinched, and by 26 July 2026 it sits at 48, Neutral, exactly in character.

Algorand Fear and Greed Index FAQ
What is the Algorand Fear and Greed Index today?
The Algorand Fear and Greed Index today is 40/100 on the daily view, showing Neutral. It summarizes live Algorand market sentiment on a 0 to 100 scale.
How is the Algorand Fear and Greed Index calculated?
CFGI combines price action, impulse, volatility, volume, technicals, social sentiment, dominance, search interest, whale activity and order book pressure into one Algorand fear and greed reading.
What is a good Algorand Fear and Greed Index reading?
There is no single good reading, because the index measures mood rather than value. Extreme Fear below 25 marks the points where sentiment is most washed out, and Extreme Greed above 75 the points carrying the most risk, so what counts as good depends on whether you are buying or selling.
How accurate is the Algorand Fear and Greed Index?
It reads sentiment accurately and predicts price poorly, and those are two different things. The score reflects what the Algorand market feels right now across ten live inputs, so treat it as a risk gauge rather than a forecast: it tells you how one-sided the crowd has become, not what happens next.
What does the Algorand Fear and Greed Index measure?
It measures the emotional state of the Algorand market on a 0 to 100 scale, from extreme fear at 0 to extreme greed at 100. CFGI builds that number from ten indicators including price action, volatility, volume, momentum, technicals and social sentiment, rather than from price alone.
How do I use the Algorand Fear and Greed Index?
Most people use it to size risk rather than to time entries. The extreme readings are the useful ones: they flag when the crowd has become one-sided, which is when caution costs least and greed costs most. Read it alongside price and volume, never on its own.
How often is the Algorand Fear and Greed Index updated?
The Algorand Fear and Greed Index is updated every 15 minutes, so the live reading can change as Algorand market conditions shift.
What does a low Algorand Fear and Greed score mean?
A low score (0 to 39) signals fear or extreme fear, where traders are cautious, risk-averse or pessimistic about the Algorand market.
What does a high Algorand Fear and Greed score mean?
A high score (60 to 100) signals greed or extreme greed, where confidence, risk appetite and bullish sentiment dominate the Algorand market.
