Valero Energy Market Sentiment Today

Valero Energy market sentiment today is shaped by price action, volatility, trading volume, technical indicators, social activity and wider market behaviour. CFGI combines these signals to show how Valero Energy sentiment is changing throughout the day.

Compare Valero Energy with the whole-market reading on the Stock Market Fear and Greed Index, or every company on the stock fear and greed directory.

What Is Valero Energy?

Greedy at the bottom.

Valero Energy is one of the largest independent petroleum refiners in North America, turning crude into petrol, diesel and jet fuel across a fleet of Gulf Coast refineries, plus one of the world's biggest renewable diesel operations. Refiners do not earn on the price of oil, they earn on the spread between crude and the fuel it becomes, which is why this stock can double in a year when the barrel does not. Its window on the CFGI index covers exactly such a year: margins lifted by disruption to Gulf shipping, and its Benicia refinery wound down to a stop.

The CFGI read: Valero's sentiment peaked on a day the shares were cheaper than on the day it bottomed. The high, 85 out of 100 and Extreme Greed, came on 5 March 2026 with the stock at $228.03. The low, 23 out of 100 and plain Fear, came three and a half months later on 18 June 2026 at $236.30, more than eight dollars higher. This crowd prices the refining spread, not the share price, and over that stretch the two came apart entirely.

Valero Energy Fear and Greed Index History

Q3 2026 breakdown. The table below updates daily.

Across 273 scored days from 23 June 2025 to 24 July 2026 Valero rarely closed in Extreme Fear, which ranks it 242nd of the stocks we track by that measure, effectively the calm end of the board. The most anxious stretch it managed was nine days of Fear or worse from 31 July to 12 August 2025, wrapped around the price low of $131.77 on 11 August 2025. On its worst sentiment day, 18 June 2026, 101 of 246 stocks were in Fear or worse and just 5 in Extreme Fear, so there was no market panic to blame.

From that August low the year was a climb. The shares went from $137.06 at the start of the window to $302.20 at the end, a rise of 120.5%, with the high of $315.21 printed on 20 July 2026. The crowd spent 114 days in Greed and 6 in Extreme Greed, including a four-day Extreme Greed run from 3 to 6 March 2026, and averaged 55 out of 100. Its biggest jump, 32 points on 5 January 2026, and its biggest drop, 36 points on 21 May 2026, bracket a year in which the mood turned on margins rather than the market.

Today's reading is 40 out of 100, Neutral, with the price close to its high. A refiner's crowd watches the spread, not the ticker, and this year the two rarely agreed. That makes Valero one of the cleanest illustrations on the market-wide Fear and Greed Index of sentiment and price pointing opposite ways at once.

Valero Energy Fear and Greed Index FAQ

What is the Valero Energy Fear and Greed Index today?

The Valero Energy Fear and Greed Index today is 71/100 on the daily view, showing Greed. It summarizes live Valero Energy market sentiment on a 0 to 100 scale.

How is the Valero Energy Fear and Greed Index calculated?

CFGI combines price action, impulse, volatility, volume, technicals, social sentiment, dominance, search interest, whale activity and order book pressure into one Valero Energy fear and greed reading.

What is a good Valero Energy Fear and Greed Index reading?

There is no single good reading, because the index measures mood rather than value. Extreme Fear below 25 marks the points where sentiment is most washed out, and Extreme Greed above 75 the points carrying the most risk, so what counts as good depends on whether you are buying or selling.

How accurate is the Valero Energy Fear and Greed Index?

It reads sentiment accurately and predicts price poorly, and those are two different things. The score reflects what the Valero Energy market feels right now across ten live inputs, so treat it as a risk gauge rather than a forecast: it tells you how one-sided the crowd has become, not what happens next.

What does the Valero Energy Fear and Greed Index measure?

It measures the emotional state of the Valero Energy market on a 0 to 100 scale, from extreme fear at 0 to extreme greed at 100. CFGI builds that number from ten indicators including price action, volatility, volume, momentum, technicals and social sentiment, rather than from price alone.

How do I use the Valero Energy Fear and Greed Index?

Most people use it to size risk rather than to time entries. The extreme readings are the useful ones: they flag when the crowd has become one-sided, which is when caution costs least and greed costs most. Read it alongside price and volume, never on its own.

How often is the Valero Energy Fear and Greed Index updated?

The Valero Energy Fear and Greed Index is updated every 15 minutes, so the live reading can change as Valero Energy market conditions shift.

What does a low Valero Energy Fear and Greed score mean?

A low score (0 to 39) signals fear or extreme fear, where traders are cautious, risk-averse or pessimistic about the Valero Energy market.

What does a high Valero Energy Fear and Greed score mean?
