What Is Union Pacific?
Slow to panic.
Union Pacific operates the largest freight rail network in the western United States, tens of thousands of route miles carrying grain, coal, chemicals, cars and containers across two dozen states. In 2025 it agreed a combination with Norfolk Southern that would create the first single-line railroad running from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific, a deal still working through regulatory review with no decision expected before 2027. Railroads move slowly by design, and so, it turns out, does their sentiment.
The CFGI read: Union Pacific's worst reading landed on the worst day the whole stock board has had. On 20 March 2026, with 169 of 245 stocks in Fear or worse and 19 of them in Extreme Fear, Union Pacific printed 21 out of 100 with the shares at $234.92. That was its floor, and it got there without leaving the Fear zone. Across 273 scored days from 23 June 2025 to 24 July 2026 this crowd has hardly ever closed a session in Extreme Fear, which ranks it 240th of the stocks we track by that measure, close to the very bottom of the panic table.
Union Pacific Fear and Greed Index History
Q3 2026 breakdown. The table below updates daily.
That March low sat inside a 12-day run of Fear or worse from 6 to 23 March 2026, and it is the nearest thing to a crisis in the record. Zone by zone the year reads calm: 115 days Neutral, 92 in Greed, 62 in Fear, 4 in Extreme Greed and next to nothing in Extreme Fear. The average, 52 out of 100, sits just above the midline of the scale.
The upside is where this crowd actually moves. An 18-day run of Greed or better carried February 2026, peaking at 81 out of 100 and Extreme Greed on 11 February 2026 with the shares at $262.81. The sharpest single session of the entire window came last month: 33 points on 23 July 2026, from 36 to 69, Fear to Greed in one day. The price backed it up, climbing from a low of $214.91 on 12 September 2025 to $308.32 on 24 July 2026, the highest print of the window, closing it 36.5% above where it opened.
Today the reading is 77 out of 100, firm Greed, and the biggest drop in the record remains a 26-point fall on 24 July 2025, from 58 to 32, exactly a year before the window closed. A crowd that has barely touched Extreme Fear across 273 sessions is genuinely rare among the stocks we track, and it is what a heavily regulated freight network looks like on the live Fear and Greed Index for the whole market when you measure mood instead of tonnage.

Union Pacific Fear and Greed Index FAQ
What is the Union Pacific Fear and Greed Index today?
The Union Pacific Fear and Greed Index today is 40/100 on the daily view, showing Neutral. It summarizes live Union Pacific market sentiment on a 0 to 100 scale.
How is the Union Pacific Fear and Greed Index calculated?
CFGI combines price action, impulse, volatility, volume, technicals, social sentiment, dominance, search interest, whale activity and order book pressure into one Union Pacific fear and greed reading.
What is a good Union Pacific Fear and Greed Index reading?
There is no single good reading, because the index measures mood rather than value. Extreme Fear below 25 marks the points where sentiment is most washed out, and Extreme Greed above 75 the points carrying the most risk, so what counts as good depends on whether you are buying or selling.
How accurate is the Union Pacific Fear and Greed Index?
It reads sentiment accurately and predicts price poorly, and those are two different things. The score reflects what the Union Pacific market feels right now across ten live inputs, so treat it as a risk gauge rather than a forecast: it tells you how one-sided the crowd has become, not what happens next.
What does the Union Pacific Fear and Greed Index measure?
It measures the emotional state of the Union Pacific market on a 0 to 100 scale, from extreme fear at 0 to extreme greed at 100. CFGI builds that number from ten indicators including price action, volatility, volume, momentum, technicals and social sentiment, rather than from price alone.
How do I use the Union Pacific Fear and Greed Index?
Most people use it to size risk rather than to time entries. The extreme readings are the useful ones: they flag when the crowd has become one-sided, which is when caution costs least and greed costs most. Read it alongside price and volume, never on its own.
How often is the Union Pacific Fear and Greed Index updated?
The Union Pacific Fear and Greed Index is updated every 15 minutes, so the live reading can change as Union Pacific market conditions shift.
What does a low Union Pacific Fear and Greed score mean?
A low score (0 to 39) signals fear or extreme fear, where traders are cautious, risk-averse or pessimistic about the Union Pacific market.
What does a high Union Pacific Fear and Greed score mean?
A high score (60 to 100) signals greed or extreme greed, where confidence, risk appetite and bullish sentiment dominate the Union Pacific market.
