What Is Travelers?

The red umbrella.

The Travelers Companies has been writing insurance out of Hartford since 1863, first used a red umbrella in its advertising around 1870, made it the official logo in 1959 and bought the rights back from Citigroup in 2007. Since 2009 it has been the only insurer in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Property and casualty underwriting is the business of pricing other people's disasters, and on the CFGI Travelers fear and greed index this crowd is strikingly reluctant to price its own.

The CFGI read: Travelers spent 2 days out of 273 in Extreme Fear, and its worst reading, 18 out of 100 on 13 January 2026 at $271.20, landed on an otherwise ordinary day: just 52 of 246 stocks were in Fear or worse and only 3 in Extreme Fear. It closed the window at its highest reading of the year and its highest price on the same date, 83 out of 100 at $387.38 on 24 July 2026.

Travelers Fear and Greed Index History

Q3 2026 breakdown. The table below updates daily.

The shape of the year is a climb with one scare in it. The shares started the window at $267.62, bottomed at $250.62 on 15 July 2025 and finished 44.8% higher, and the sentiment record matches: 94 days in Greed and 11 in Extreme Greed against 65 in Fear. The scare was January, an 11-day run in Fear or worse from 6 to 21 January 2026 with that lone Extreme Fear print sitting in the middle of it.

This crowd changes its mind in leaps rather than drifts. On 17 July 2026 the score rose 46 points in a single session, 36 to 82, the largest one-day move we have recorded for it, eight days after its largest drop, 26 points from 82 to 56 on 9 July. In between came a three-day Extreme Greed run from 26 to 30 June 2026, and earlier the year's most sustained optimism, 11 days of Greed or better from 18 February to 4 March 2026.

Ranked by how fearful its average reading is, Travelers sits 187th of the stocks we track, deep in the calm end, with a mean of 53 out of 100. Insurance underwrites volatility for a living, and here it is one of the steadier temperaments on the overall market Fear and Greed Index.

Travelers Fear and Greed Index FAQ

What is the Travelers Fear and Greed Index today?

The Travelers Fear and Greed Index today is 34/100 on the daily view, showing Fear. It summarizes live Travelers market sentiment on a 0 to 100 scale.

How is the Travelers Fear and Greed Index calculated?

CFGI combines price action, impulse, volatility, volume, technicals, social sentiment, dominance, search interest, whale activity and order book pressure into one Travelers fear and greed reading.

What is a good Travelers Fear and Greed Index reading?

There is no single good reading, because the index measures mood rather than value. Extreme Fear below 25 marks the points where sentiment is most washed out, and Extreme Greed above 75 the points carrying the most risk, so what counts as good depends on whether you are buying or selling.

How accurate is the Travelers Fear and Greed Index?

It reads sentiment accurately and predicts price poorly, and those are two different things. The score reflects what the Travelers market feels right now across ten live inputs, so treat it as a risk gauge rather than a forecast: it tells you how one-sided the crowd has become, not what happens next.

What does the Travelers Fear and Greed Index measure?

It measures the emotional state of the Travelers market on a 0 to 100 scale, from extreme fear at 0 to extreme greed at 100. CFGI builds that number from ten indicators including price action, volatility, volume, momentum, technicals and social sentiment, rather than from price alone.

How do I use the Travelers Fear and Greed Index?

Most people use it to size risk rather than to time entries. The extreme readings are the useful ones: they flag when the crowd has become one-sided, which is when caution costs least and greed costs most. Read it alongside price and volume, never on its own.

How often is the Travelers Fear and Greed Index updated?

The Travelers Fear and Greed Index is updated every 15 minutes, so the live reading can change as Travelers market conditions shift.

What does a low Travelers Fear and Greed score mean?

A low score (0 to 39) signals fear or extreme fear, where traders are cautious, risk-averse or pessimistic about the Travelers market.

What does a high Travelers Fear and Greed score mean?

A high score (60 to 100) signals greed or extreme greed, where confidence, risk appetite and bullish sentiment dominate the Travelers market.

Can I get alerts when the Travelers Fear and Greed Index changes?

Yes. CFGI alerts let you track Travelers sentiment across daily, 4-hour, 1-hour and 15-minute timeframes. Create alerts for fear, greed, extreme readings or specific Travelers Fear and Greed Index score changes.

Can I add the Travelers Fear and Greed Index to my website?

Yes. The CFGI widget lets you embed a live Travelers Fear and Greed Index on your website, so visitors can see current Travelers sentiment, live scores and market conditions without you building the data system yourself.
