What Is Shopify?

Its only panic was everyone's.

Shopify is the commerce platform behind a very large slice of independent online retail, founded in Ottawa in 2006 by a team who could not find software good enough for their snowboard shop. It gives merchants a storefront, payments, shipping and point of sale, and it earns more when their sales rise, which makes it a leveraged read on small business retail rather than a software subscription in the ordinary sense. On the CFGI Shopify fear and greed index that leverage is plainly visible. This crowd swings hard in both directions, and it has done all year.

The CFGI read: Shopify posted exactly one day in Extreme Fear across 273 scored sessions, and it picked the worst day on the board to do it. On 5 February 2026 the score printed 19 out of 100 with the shares at $111.24. That same session, 34 of the 246 stocks we scored closed in Extreme Fear, the widest wave of stock panic in the entire window. Shopify's single capitulation was not really its own: it was the market's, and by 10 February 2026 the score had jumped 32 points in a session, from 34 to 66, straight back into Greed.

Shopify Fear and Greed Index History

Q3 2026 breakdown. The table below updates daily.

Both ends of the dial get used here. Shopify closed 106 sessions in Greed and 11 in Extreme Greed against 51 in Fear and that single day in Extreme Fear, with 104 in Neutral in between. Its peak, 87 out of 100, came early, on 6 August 2025 with the shares at $154.90, and its best sustained stretch ran 12 sessions in Greed or better from 15 October to 30 October 2025, a run that carried the price to its window high of $179.01 on 29 October.

The comedown was the story of 2026, and the mood got there before the price did. On 5 May 2026 the score dropped 34 points in a session, from 66 to 32, opening a 9 day run of Fear or worse that lasted to 15 May, and the shares bottomed at $95.40 on 13 May. Shopify ends the window at 27, in Fear, with a price of $113.59 that is only 3.3% above the $109.98 it started at, an average of 55 out of 100 and a complete round trip behind it. A year that finishes almost exactly where it began, with 117 days spent in Greed or better along the way, is the best argument there is for reading the combined crypto and stock Fear and Greed Index rather than the closing price alone.

Shopify Fear and Greed Index FAQ

What is the Shopify Fear and Greed Index today?

The Shopify Fear and Greed Index today is 30/100 on the daily view, showing Fear. It summarizes live Shopify market sentiment on a 0 to 100 scale.

How is the Shopify Fear and Greed Index calculated?

CFGI combines price action, impulse, volatility, volume, technicals, social sentiment, dominance, search interest, whale activity and order book pressure into one Shopify fear and greed reading.

What is a good Shopify Fear and Greed Index reading?

There is no single good reading, because the index measures mood rather than value. Extreme Fear below 25 marks the points where sentiment is most washed out, and Extreme Greed above 75 the points carrying the most risk, so what counts as good depends on whether you are buying or selling.

How accurate is the Shopify Fear and Greed Index?

It reads sentiment accurately and predicts price poorly, and those are two different things. The score reflects what the Shopify market feels right now across ten live inputs, so treat it as a risk gauge rather than a forecast: it tells you how one-sided the crowd has become, not what happens next.

What does the Shopify Fear and Greed Index measure?

It measures the emotional state of the Shopify market on a 0 to 100 scale, from extreme fear at 0 to extreme greed at 100. CFGI builds that number from ten indicators including price action, volatility, volume, momentum, technicals and social sentiment, rather than from price alone.

How do I use the Shopify Fear and Greed Index?

Most people use it to size risk rather than to time entries. The extreme readings are the useful ones: they flag when the crowd has become one-sided, which is when caution costs least and greed costs most. Read it alongside price and volume, never on its own.

How often is the Shopify Fear and Greed Index updated?

The Shopify Fear and Greed Index is updated every 15 minutes, so the live reading can change as Shopify market conditions shift.

What does a low Shopify Fear and Greed score mean?

A low score (0 to 39) signals fear or extreme fear, where traders are cautious, risk-averse or pessimistic about the Shopify market.

What does a high Shopify Fear and Greed score mean?

A high score (60 to 100) signals greed or extreme greed, where confidence, risk appetite and bullish sentiment dominate the Shopify market.

Can I get alerts when the Shopify Fear and Greed Index changes?

Yes. CFGI alerts let you track Shopify sentiment across daily, 4-hour, 1-hour and 15-minute timeframes. Create alerts for fear, greed, extreme readings or specific Shopify Fear and Greed Index score changes.

Can I add the Shopify Fear and Greed Index to my website?

Yes. The CFGI widget lets you embed a live Shopify Fear and Greed Index on your website, so visitors can see current Shopify sentiment, live scores and market conditions without you building the data system yourself.

Can I use Shopify Fear and Greed data in my own app or trading bot?

Yes. The CFGI API gives developers access to Shopify sentiment data, multi-timeframe fear and greed scores and market signals for dashboards, trading bots, apps and research tools.
