What Is Royal Bank of Canada?
Canada's calm, briefly rattled.
Royal Bank of Canada is one of the Big Six Canadian banks, founded in Halifax in 1864 and now spanning personal and commercial banking at home, wealth management through City National in the United States, capital markets and insurance. Canadian banking is a famously concentrated system and RBC sits at the top of it, which is why the name is usually shorthand for stability rather than drama. It joined the CFGI stock board on 10 July 2026, so the Royal Bank of Canada fear and greed index is still young: 11 scored sessions, and they have not been quiet ones.
The CFGI read: RBC opened hot and cooled hard. Its first six sessions, from 10 July to 17 July 2026, all closed in Greed or better, including three consecutive days of Extreme Greed from 14 to 16 July and a peak of 85 out of 100 on 15 July with the shares at $217.27. Then came 20 July 2026, when the score dropped 44 points in a single session, from 77 to 33. In 11 days on the index this crowd has already visited four of the five zones and skipped only Extreme Fear.
Royal Bank of Canada Fear and Greed Index History
Q3 2026 breakdown. The table below updates daily.
The back half of the fortnight belonged to the pessimists, briefly. From 20 July to 23 July 2026 RBC posted four straight sessions in Fear or worse and set its floor at 30 out of 100 on 22 July with the price at $211.55. That was not an RBC story: 109 assets on our board sat in Fear or worse that day and 4 were in Extreme Fear, so the bank was tracking a soft tape rather than leading one. It has since ticked up 9 points to 40, back in Neutral.
Underneath the mood swings the price barely moved. RBC finished its first 11 days 1.1% lower, $211.25 down to $208.88, with a low of $208.14 on 23 July 2026 and a high of $217.27 on 15 July. A 55 point sentiment range against a price range that narrow is the clearest thing this short record tells us: the readings are being driven by positioning and momentum within the week, not by anything dramatic in the shares. A fortnight of trading is not enough to say whether that is how this bank always behaves, so the thing to do now is watch whether the range widens or narrows as more sessions accumulate on the full Fear and Greed Index. The average so far is 58 out of 100.
