Linde is the world's largest industrial gas company, an enterprise that traces back to Carl von Linde's refrigeration breakthroughs in 1879 and took its modern shape in the 2018 merger with Praxair. It sells oxygen, nitrogen, argon and hydrogen to steel mills, hospitals, chipmakers and refineries, which makes the crowd on the CFGI Linde fear and greed index something close to a sentiment gauge on industry itself.

The violence, when it came, came at the top. The price climbed 11.3% across the window, from $459.75 to $511.84, and hit $546.64 on 2 July 2026; a week later, on 9 July, the score suffered its sharpest break, 46 points from 81 to 35 in one session.
