What Is EOG Resources?
Shale, minus the panic.
EOG Resources is a Houston oil and gas producer with an unusual origin story: it began inside Enron as Enron Oil & Gas and spun out in 1999, two years before its former parent collapsed. The company that walked away became shale's disciplinarian, famous for a premium drilling rule that only sanctions wells clearing a high return hurdle at deliberately conservative commodity prices, applied across the Permian, the Eagle Ford and newer plays. Discipline in the drilling schedule, it turns out, looks a lot like discipline in the crowd.
The CFGI read: In 273 scored days EOG has hardly ever closed a day in Extreme Fear. Its floor was 21, plain Fear, on 1 October 2025 at $111.27, and even that came on an unremarkable day for the wider board, with 65 of the stocks we track in Fear or worse. The sharper tell is at the top: sentiment and price peaked together on 30 March 2026, 84 out of 100, Extreme Greed, with the price at its window high of $149.89, and the very next day the score dropped 25 points to 59, its biggest fall of the window. This crowd calls its own tops.
EOG Resources Fear and Greed Index History
Q3 2026 breakdown. The table below updates daily.
The year splits into two moods. Through late 2025 the crowd leaned cautious, including its longest gloomy stretch, 11 days in Fear or worse from 24 October to 7 November 2025, with the price bottoming at $101.78 on 16 December. Then came the March 2026 conviction run: 14 straight days at Greed or better from 11 to 30 March, capped by 3 days of Extreme Greed from 26 March, a rare visit to the top zone.
Overall the ledger reads 98 days in Fear, 100 in Neutral and 72 in Greed, average 48, a crowd that spends its time debating rather than panicking. What is a good EOG Resources Fear and Greed Index reading?
There is no single good reading, because the index measures mood rather than value. Extreme Fear below 25 marks the points where sentiment is most washed out, and Extreme Greed above 75 the points carrying the most risk, so what counts as good depends on whether you are buying or selling.

How do I use the EOG Resources Fear and Greed Index?
