What Is Arthur J. Gallagher?
The board's deepest worrier.
Arthur J. Gallagher is the insurance broker from Rolling Meadows, Illinois, a family firm founded in 1927 that grew into one of the largest brokerages on earth by buying smaller agencies by the hundred and folding them into a culture it calls the Gallagher Way. Broking is supposed to be the calm side of insurance, commission income with none of the claims risk. Gallagher's crowd never read that memo. With 20 days in Extreme Fear between June 2025 and July 2026, only three of the stocks we track logged more time in the deepest zone.
The CFGI read: On 31 October 2025 Gallagher printed its floor, 10 out of 100, at $249.49, deep inside a six-session Extreme Fear run that lasted from 28 October to 4 November. On 7 July 2026 it printed its peak, 86 out of 100, Extreme Greed, at $249.77. Twenty-eight cents apart in price, 76 points apart in mood: the cleanest demonstration this index offers that sentiment is not a price chart. The October despair had company, 107 of 247 stocks sat in Fear or worse that day and 18 in Extreme Fear, but the same dollar figure carried dread on the way down and euphoria on the way back, and only the road between them changed.
Arthur J. Gallagher Fear and Greed Index History
Q3 2026 breakdown. The table below updates daily.
The road was rough. The stock fell 23.7% across the window, from $324.12 to $247.43, off a high of $325.98 set on 24 June 2025, its second scored day, and the low told the sentiment story: $192 on 13 May 2026, printed inside a 15-session run in Fear or worse that lasted from 24 April to 14 May. By average score, 44 out of 100, this is the 16th most fearful crowd among the stocks we track, and its 17 February 2026 session showed what relief looks like at that altitude, a 29-point jump from 17 to 46 that still only reached Neutral.
The turn, when it came, was total. From 24 June to 14 July 2026 Gallagher strung together 13 sessions in Greed or better, three of them Extreme Greed between 2 and 7 July, before a 23-point drop on 15 July from 67 to 44 ended the celebration. It closed the window at 43, Neutral, on 24 July 2026. A serial acquirer digesting the biggest purchase in its history spent the year swinging between its two extremes, and the whole-market Fear and Greed Index read every swing.
