American Tower is a landlord for the airwaves, a real estate investment trust that owns the masts mobile networks hang their antennas on and rents the same steel to multiple carriers at once. The leases are long, the income is steady, and the valuation moves with interest rates, which gives the CFGI American Tower fear and greed index a very particular crowd: quiet, defensive and persistently braced.
The CFGI read: This crowd and this price disagree about what a bad day is. Its most frightened session, 19 out of 100 on 31 July 2025, came with the stock at $208.39. Its happiest, 78 on 13 February 2026, came at $192.10, more than sixteen dollars lower. A rate-sensitive crowd prices the outlook rather than the tape, and for most of the window the outlook was the problem: an average of 45 out of 100, 97 sessions in Fear or worse against 49 in Greed or better, and not one close in Extreme Greed across all 273.

Within a week the score had taken its biggest single-day drop, 21 points from 50 to 29 on 29 July, and printed an Extreme Fear day on 31 July 2025, with 103 of the 247 stocks scored that day in Fear or worse alongside it. Its visits to the deepest zone were only ever that brief: never two Extreme Fear sessions in a row all window.
The price kept falling long after the fear had normalised, down 24.7% across the window to $166.78, with the low of $162.11 on 6 July 2026 landing inside a 15-session Fear-or-worse run that ended the following day. This is the 20th most fearful average among the stocks we track, yet a 23-point jump on 18 May 2026 from 27 to 50 marked the mood slowly turning, and it closed the window at 55, Neutral, on 24 July 2026. On the combined crypto and stock Fear and Greed Index the towers stand still while the crowd beneath them shifts its weight.
