What Is 3M?

Barely a bad day all year.

3M is the century-old industrial conglomerate behind Post-it Notes, Scotch tape and thousands of products that sit unnoticed inside factories, hospitals and homes, now deep into a turnaround built on operational discipline. On the CFGI 3M fear and greed index the crowd has backed that story with remarkable steadiness: across more than a year it has rarely broken, and when it did it took the whole market breaking with it.

The CFGI read: 3M's rare dip into Extreme Fear, 19 out of 100 on 20 March 2026 with the shares at $141.20, was barely about 3M at all. That was the worst breadth day we have recorded for stocks, 169 of 245 names in Fear or worse and 19 in Extreme Fear, and for 3M it marked the exact price bottom of the window. The whole room panicked, this crowd briefly touched the floor, and the shares finished the window 16.7% higher at $172.19.

3M Fear and Greed Index History

Q3 2026 breakdown. The table below updates daily.

3M's zone tally for the 23 June 2025 to 24 July 2026 window reads 114 days in Neutral, 88 in Greed and 66 in Fear, for an average score of 51 out of 100; the shares, meanwhile, climbed from $147.60 to $172.19, peaking at $174.61 on 12 February 2026. The nerves that did surface came in fast round trips: a 31-point drop on 20 January 2026, 54 to 23, was answered by a 32-point jump on 4 February, 35 to 67, a full circuit inside a fortnight.

The recent record leans warm. A 15-day run in Greed or better from 5 to 26 June 2026 set up a fresh sentiment peak of 83, Extreme Greed, on 22 July at $170.46, and the window closed at 69, Greed, on 24 July. By time spent in Extreme Fear, 3M ranks 166th of the stocks we track, comfortably in the calmer half of the full Fear and Greed Index, a quiet verdict of its own on the turnaround.

3M Fear and Greed Index FAQ

What is the 3M Fear and Greed Index today?

The 3M Fear and Greed Index today is 46/100 on the daily view, showing Neutral. It summarizes live 3M market sentiment on a 0 to 100 scale.

How is the 3M Fear and Greed Index calculated?

CFGI combines price action, impulse, volatility, volume, technicals, social sentiment, dominance, search interest, whale activity and order book pressure into one 3M fear and greed reading.

What is a good 3M Fear and Greed Index reading?

There is no single good reading, because the index measures mood rather than value. Extreme Fear below 25 marks the points where sentiment is most washed out, and Extreme Greed above 75 the points carrying the most risk, so what counts as good depends on whether you are buying or selling.

How accurate is the 3M Fear and Greed Index?

It reads sentiment accurately and predicts price poorly, and those are two different things. The score reflects what the 3M market feels right now across ten live inputs, so treat it as a risk gauge rather than a forecast: it tells you how one-sided the crowd has become, not what happens next.

What does the 3M Fear and Greed Index measure?

It measures the emotional state of the 3M market on a 0 to 100 scale, from extreme fear at 0 to extreme greed at 100. CFGI builds that number from ten indicators including price action, volatility, volume, momentum, technicals and social sentiment, rather than from price alone.

How do I use the 3M Fear and Greed Index?

Most people use it to size risk rather than to time entries. The extreme readings are the useful ones: they flag when the crowd has become one-sided, which is when caution costs least and greed costs most. Read it alongside price and volume, never on its own.

How often is the 3M Fear and Greed Index updated?

The 3M Fear and Greed Index is updated every 15 minutes, so the live reading can change as 3M market conditions shift.

What does a low 3M Fear and Greed score mean?

A low score (0 to 39) signals fear or extreme fear, where traders are cautious, risk-averse or pessimistic about the 3M market.

What does a high 3M Fear and Greed score mean?

A high score (60 to 100) signals greed or extreme greed, where confidence, risk appetite and bullish sentiment dominate the 3M market.

Can I get alerts when the 3M Fear and Greed Index changes?

Yes. CFGI alerts let you track 3M sentiment across daily, 4-hour, 1-hour and 15-minute timeframes. Create alerts for fear, greed, extreme readings or specific 3M Fear and Greed Index score changes.

Can I add the 3M Fear and Greed Index to my website?

Yes. The CFGI widget lets you embed a live 3M Fear and Greed Index on your website, so visitors can see current 3M sentiment, live scores and market conditions without you building the data system yourself.
