What Is Filecoin?

The archivist who snapped once.

Filecoin is the decentralised storage network built by Protocol Labs, live since 2020, which pays a global web of storage providers to hold data that would otherwise sit in corporate clouds. It is infrastructure in the least glamorous sense, block space for bytes, and its crowd mostly behaves accordingly: patient, unexcitable, settled in for the long haul. Mostly. The CFGI Filecoin fear and greed index caught the one week it was not.

The CFGI read: Filecoin spent 248 of the past 365 days in Neutral and exactly one in Extreme Greed: 83 out of 100 on 7 November 2025, the same day its price peaked at $3.39. The approach and the aftermath were just as compressed. On 6 November the score jumped 29 points, from 33 to 62, and on 10 November it collapsed 34, from 76 to 42, the year's biggest moves in both directions inside five days. A crowd this placid does not produce a week like that unless the story briefly feels once in a cycle.

Filecoin Fear and Greed Index History

Q3 2026 breakdown. The table below updates daily.

Either side of that spike, the record is steady bordering on stoic. The year's low of 20, in Fear, came on 11 October 2025 with the price at $1.56, the day 93 of the 96 assets then scored closed in Fear or worse and 17 sat in Extreme Fear, the broadest panic of the window. The longest sustained gloom, 15 days of Fear or worse, ran from 29 January to 12 February 2026 as the whole-market Fear and Greed Index plumbed its own low. In both cases FIL's fear was the market's fear, arriving on schedule and leaving with it.

The price has been less forgiving than the mood: down 72.9% across the year, from $2.72 to $0.74, with the floor of $0.72 set on 30 June 2026. Even so, the crowd found a five-day run of Greed or better as late as May 2026, and it closes the window at 45, in Neutral, exactly its average for the year. The archivist filed November under lessons learned and went back to work.

Filecoin Fear and Greed Index FAQ

What is the Filecoin Fear and Greed Index today?

The Filecoin Fear and Greed Index today is 38/100 on the daily view, showing Fear. It summarizes live Filecoin market sentiment on a 0 to 100 scale.

How is the Filecoin Fear and Greed Index calculated?

CFGI combines price action, impulse, volatility, volume, technicals, social sentiment, dominance, search interest, whale activity and order book pressure into one Filecoin fear and greed reading.

What is a good Filecoin Fear and Greed Index reading?

There is no single good reading, because the index measures mood rather than value. Extreme Fear below 25 marks the points where sentiment is most washed out, and Extreme Greed above 75 the points carrying the most risk, so what counts as good depends on whether you are buying or selling.

How accurate is the Filecoin Fear and Greed Index?

It reads sentiment accurately and predicts price poorly, and those are two different things. The score reflects what the Filecoin market feels right now across ten live inputs, so treat it as a risk gauge rather than a forecast: it tells you how one-sided the crowd has become, not what happens next.

What does the Filecoin Fear and Greed Index measure?

It measures the emotional state of the Filecoin market on a 0 to 100 scale, from extreme fear at 0 to extreme greed at 100. CFGI builds that number from ten indicators including price action, volatility, volume, momentum, technicals and social sentiment, rather than from price alone.

How do I use the Filecoin Fear and Greed Index?

Most people use it to size risk rather than to time entries. The extreme readings are the useful ones: they flag when the crowd has become one-sided, which is when caution costs least and greed costs most. Read it alongside price and volume, never on its own.

How often is the Filecoin Fear and Greed Index updated?

The Filecoin Fear and Greed Index is updated every 15 minutes, so the live reading can change as Filecoin market conditions shift.

What does a low Filecoin Fear and Greed score mean?

A low score (0 to 39) signals fear or extreme fear, where traders are cautious, risk-averse or pessimistic about the Filecoin market.

What does a high Filecoin Fear and Greed score mean?

A high score (60 to 100) signals greed or extreme greed, where confidence, risk appetite and bullish sentiment dominate the Filecoin market.

Can I get alerts when the Filecoin Fear and Greed Index changes?
