What Is Chainlink?

The mid-cap major.

Chainlink is the network that feeds real-world data to smart contracts on other blockchains; its token is LINK. By size LINK is a mid-cap. By sentiment it is a major, and on the CFGI Chainlink fear and greed index that distinction is measured rather than asserted, in how closely it moves with the market, in zone time and in how its extremes line up.

The CFGI read: Every one of Chainlink's sentiment extremes in the year to June 2026 landed on a market-wide event day, and none survived it. With more Extreme Greed days than Bitcoin, none of its Extreme Fear, and a major-grade 76% sentiment match, LINK is the cleanest market proxy outside the big five in CFGI data.

Chainlink Fear and Greed Index History: June 2025 to June 2026

Its sentiment match with Bitcoin sits level with ADA, DOGE and XRP and ahead of BNB, and across the year to June 2026 its profile was the most balanced on our index: 5 days in Extreme Greed, which is more than Bitcoin managed, zero days in Extreme Fear, and a daily score that sits mid-table for calm.

The year's shape was the market's shape, with a mid-cap's amplitude. The price rose 51% between 1 and 20 July 2025, the score reached its yearly high of 83 on 9 August with LINK at $21.38, and the price went on to its peak of $27.03 on 22 August. Three days later came the shock of 25 August 2025, LINK's worst single sentiment day of the year, a 35-point fall, with the price down 11% in the session. The cascade of 8 to 11 October took 24% off the price, and the yearly sentiment low of 20 printed on 11 October at $17.17, exactly on the Extreme Fear boundary without crossing it on a daily close.

The capitulation of early 2026 followed the same disciplined script: a 34% price fall from 20 January to the 5 February bottom, then the third-strongest one-month rebound of the fifteen, 15% to $9.24 by 5 March, only Hedera and XRP recovered harder. The zone ledger for the year confirms the balance: 79 days in Fear against 55 in Greed, 226 in Neutral, and every visit to the extremes brief. The full year still closed down 50%, from $15.25 to $7.63, with the price's twelve-month low of $7.36 on 6 June 2026.

What stands out in LINK's record is what is missing from it. No private drama on its own calendar, no detachment from the market's mood, no euphoric excess and no capitulative panic; every one of its extremes landed on a market-wide event day, and none of them stuck. LINK simply trades like one of the big five wearing a mid-cap's market cap, and for readers of our index that makes it the cleanest single proxy for "the market" outside Bitcoin itself, with slightly more greed in it and slightly less fear.
